At the Bar
In the acknowledgement section of Beer Goggles I give a genuine shout out to Guinness and Belhaven for their assistance with the creative process.
Now, I can't speak on behalf of other writers out there, but for me, alcohol - at times - is as important as a pen and paper. My mind works in weird and wonderful ways, and adding five or six (or more) pints of cold black velvet down my greedy gullet is like streroids to an underachieving athlete. Talk about a performance enhancer. I salute you brewing companies around the globe.
Now, I write a lot from the comfort of my own home, but I have found that during the phases of concept creation, plot development, and even individual chapter flow, a sawdust on the floor type of bar with a fine selection of dark beers is the optimal environment. For me, sipping back a few cold ones smacks my brain on the arse, kick starts it into another gear, and results in a phenomenon I have been unable to replicate from the home office or couch.
The moral of this tale: for me to think "outside the box," I am typically "out of my box."
